As the world continues to progress in developing and integrating technology, many industries are looking at how they can streamline their operations using the tools available on the market. One of the fastest growing industries is the construction sector. With demand growing by the day for new construction, many companies are turning their focus to seeking how they can possibly move from paper based management and operations to ones integrating devices such as iPads.

If you’re interested in using iPads in construction, these are some reasons why they are the way forward and why you should begin using them in your daily operations.

1. Reduce Overall Spending

When it comes to technology in construction, many believe that they need to invest in costly devices that are supposed to offer them greater functionality. However, with the huge momentum behind app development, today’s iPads offer you plenty of apps that you would normally need to access on a laptop. With this, iPads are far easier to carry around the work environment and operate making them more functional tools than laptops.

Further on for this, iPads cost significantly less in comparison to some of today’s laptops. With a cheaper upfront cost and the time saved with not having to keep opening up a laptop or return to an office to access information, overall spending can be cut significantly.

Using an iPad can also reduce the risk of mistakes and reworking different jobs. Instead of having to guess a measurement or running into the issue of not having the latest set of plans on hand you can easily bring up all the information you need on an iPad that you can carry around with you!

2. Increase Workforce Efficiency

The biggest concern that those in the industry may share when they’re discussing technology in construction is whether or not making the switch is truly worth it. Using iPads in your workforce can be far more helpful than using laptops as you have everything you need at your fingertips. The usability of an iPad allows you to seamlessly share important plans and documentation with your team, beaming them between linked apps such as ProWorkflow or Asana.

Setting up your team with iPads can allow you to communicate clearly and effiencetly and again reduce the risk of mistakes through keeping up-to-date plans available to access. All of this is possible through a computer, but these are largely confined to an office space rather than having the flexibility of carrying an iPad around site when documentation and communication is needed most!

3. Documentation Access

With the sheer amount of overwhelming paperwork needed in construction, this can be a pain point for many. However, it’s easy to see why the iPad is considered to be beneficial technology in construction.

With the huge benefits of cloud storage and sharing, you can easily have all your plans, health and safety documents, delivery invoices, customer communication and so on available to carry with you wherever you are on site or in the office! This is a huge benefit as this eliminates the need to carry around folders of paper that can easily get damaged and lost.

4. Accurate Time Management

There are a a large array of time and task management apps available on iPads which can be integrated into your construction business. Allowing workers to clock in and clock out to begin and start their day can allow for more accurate time management rather than going to the tradition nearest quarter or half hour mark. This is especially beneficial if you are working with contractors. Keeping a close eye on the time they are spending on the job versus how much they invoice for can help you to save costs.

iPads can also help with keeping track of how long tasks are taking to allow for more accurate quoting and costing for potential clients. You can keep track of tasks through apps such as Trello or Monday.com.

Overall, adding iPads to your tool box of technology can increase productivity and efficiency within your construction workplace in a huge array or different areas. There are plenty more benefits than what we have touched on and thousands of apps designed specifically construction companies than you can use to streamline the operations of your business!

If you are a contractor in the construction industry and are working by yourself, an iPad is an excellent way of taking your office with you and keeping track of time, costs and travel as you go about different jobs.
