If you’re someone who spends a lot of time on your phone, or possibly your battery life is becoming average, you might know the pain of waiting for it to charge, especially if you have to leave in a hurry. It can be frustrating to wait while it charges slowly.
But is there anything you can do to make your iPhone or Android phone charge quickly, even if it doesn’t support fast charging? The short answer is, YES! If slow charging is a problem you often face with your smartphone, we have come up with five tips to improve the process.
One of the biggest drainers of battery on your phone will be it's constant searching for and connecting to a network. Putting your device in Flight/ Airplane mode will halt this process temporarily, helping your phone to focus on charging. Doing this will turn off WiFi and other connectivity features as well, reducing the active load on the phone. Using the Airplane mode will boost your phone’s charging speed by a significant margin and is great if you are still wanting to use your phone.
It is important to note that this will stop you from getting calls, messages, and notifications.
Charging your smartphone can be done in a myriad of ways - the USB on your computer, a portable power pack, wireless charging or a wall adapter. When it comes to wanting to charge your phone quickest, you want to be using a wall adapter where possible.
You may be wondering why this is. Well, for example the latest iPhone is recommended to be charged with a 20W wall adapter. When you compare this to a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port on your computer or portable charging bank, these will only produce between 2.5W and 4.5W, which is relatively small. For optimal fast charging, use a higher output wall adapter that is within the rating for your phone!
Many smartphones now have built in power saving or low-power modes which are great for those who use their phone a lot.
If your phone has one, consider enabling it while charging your phone. The power-saving mode restricts background processes and connectivity features which reduces consumption, increasing the net charging speed.
Similarly, you can turn off unwanted features like Bluetooth, GPS location, WiFi, WiFi Hotspot and Mobile Data, to further speed up charging.
This may seem like common sense, but many people do not follow this when they are trying to charge their phone in a rush! Although using your phone while it is charging can be a great means of entertainment or productivity as you are waiting, it will slow down the charging process.
Using your phone while waiting for it to charge will reduce its power intake by about 40%, making it difficult to build up enough charge before you have to race out the door.
In short, high temperatures are bad for batteries. Overheating can damage the battery and also reduce its lifespan. So, when a phone starts heating up, it automatically tries to slow down the charging process to bring back the temperature to the optimum level.
This is why most phones with fast charging will actually charge slower when they are hot. So, try to keep your phone at ideal temperatures for them to charge faster. Remove the device’s case and keep it in a well-ventilated area while charging to optimise faster charging times!
Overall, decreasing your phone's charging time is possible when you introduce a few easy steps into your routine! It is important to look after your battery life on your phone to prolong your overall phone's longevity.
